Registering a death

A loved ones death must registered within 5 days of the date they passed away. (8 days in Scotland including weekends and bank holidays) This can be done at the local registrar of births, deaths and marriages in the district of where they passed away. (The process is slightly different if a loved one is in the care of the HM Coroner)

Once the death has been registered, a green certificate for burial/cremation will be issued by the registrar which gives permission for a burial or cremation to be made. The green form must be given to your chosen funeral director before the funeral can take place. (The registrar may sometimes issue the green certificate directly to us or your chosen crematorium if a cremation) An application for burial/cremation will need to be completed by the person making the funeral arrangements. ( We will be able to help you complete these forms).
